9/15-16
Students will prepare a description and analysis of a French publicity campaign ("une campagne de sensibilisation contre les dangers de l'Internet") (comics on pages 3-12 only) designed to make adolescents aware of the potential dangers of the Internet. The presentation should include:
an explanation of the title;
a description of what is seen in the comic strip (box by box);
an explanation of the "message" of the comic (what is the underlying moral being taught?);
what the student liked or didn't like about the comic;
the student's opinion as to whether this "campagne de sensibilisation" is effective ("efficace") and if so for what age group (children, adolescents, adults?).
Students are reminded that while they are permitted (and even encouraged) to use websites such as wordreference.com to prepare their presentations, the use of Google translate (or any other online translation device) is strictly prohibited because use of such items constitutes plagiarism (claiming that the work done by a computer is your own). If evidence exists that such a device has been used, the student will receive a zero for the assignment.
Instead of focusing soley on accuracy (that is, not making mistakes), FOCUS ON COMMUNICATION - what do you want to say? This is much more important than grammatical errors.
9/18
Students will read the entire article entitled "Protégez votre vie privée sur Internet" pp. 15-17. Answer all questions on p. 18. Come prepared to class on Thursday to discuss the article.
9/22

10/5
Students are to compose 2 questions in French: (1) on a topic of their own choosing (something you are really curious about) and (2) on a topic related to our unit of study on the Internet and it's "dangers". All questions should be information questions (that is, there should be no Yes/No questions as these do not further the conversation as much as asking for information (think "why", "how"...) Please email me your questions no later than Sunday, 10/5 at 6:00 p.m. As mentioned previously, YOU are to do the work to formulate the question, not an internet translator. Use of these devices is strictly forbidden and will result in loss of credit for this assignment. Wordreference.com is an acceptable site that allows you to look up words or expressions.
10/20
1st written assignment due (Dangers of the Internet) - students must submit their 300-400 word text based on the articles read in class during this unit by Monday, October 20th @ 9:28 a.m. by sending the assignment to Ms. Black's email: Candace_black@eastiron.monroe.edu.
10/21
Unit 1 test in class (IB style - text-handling exercises based on two previously unseen texts on the dangers of the Internet). Seniors must answer ALL questions. Juniors may leave one question from each section blank.
10/28
Read your assigned section of the 1B document (article on "Les differents types de drogues"), fill out the homework table on the 1C document (both available to download from Edmodo) and come to class prepared to speak in French about your portion of the article.
10/30
Re-read the article entitled "Les différents types de drogues” pp. 3-5 in its entirety and review the chart of notes from today’s class. Rank order the drugs from most to least dangerous, then write a paragraph response in French justifying your #1 (most dangerous) and #6 (least dangerous) drug choices. Email me the paragraph before class on Thursday.
10/31
Fill out the "Nom de la rue" table.
11/3
Finish making a simple Haiku Deck or Keynote presentation on the drug you have chosen to study. You may have short notes on the slides, but may not have full sentences as you must speak spontaneously when you present these Monday instead of reading.
